VINTAGE LINENS FROM CANADA!

Show and Tell
I'm excited to participate in "Show & Tell" today. It has been way too long since doing so. KELLI'S HOUSE is so gracious in hosting this weekly event! Thanks Kelli.

****************************************************************

A package arrived at my home about a month ago, all the way from Canada! Inside were some very pretty linens: a vintage pillow case, a doily, and a very feminine hanky; oh and of course, the sweetest hand written message in a floral card. You might ask who sent me the lovelies. They were from CANDY, one of the best bloggity friends I've met in this adventure of blogging! I was excited to tear into that box to see just what it was Candy had sent me. I knew from visiting her blog and learning of her taste, that I'd love whatever she had sent.
Thank you Candy for all your sweetness over the past couple of years. It's obvious to me that you are a giver and encourager. May God bless you and your sweet family!

Friday's Show and Tell

For this week's Show and Tell, I'd like to share about the very special award Shane received Wednesday night. (May 21,2008) This made two consecutive years, and boy-oh, is this mama proud! The photo shows him holding last year's medal and wearing this year's.
This was taken about 3 weeks ago right before a Patch program for Sunday night service in which Shane his first solo part at this particular church. He did great!
A fun, little newspaper article I wrote about Shane's solo performance. (Click to enlarge)

He came up to me after being dismissed from his Patch Club Wednesday night. I was standing between the pews, speaking with old friends who are down from Ohio for their grand-daughter's graduation. His rosy, red face was all smiles and his eyes were just a dancin' as he announced in a jubilant voice, "Mom, look, two years in a row!" I saw it right away. Around his neck was the "Super Sailor of the Year" medal which is awarded at the end of each year to one girl and one boy who have shown a consistent testimony and giving spirit. I teared up of course as I paused my conversation and congratulated him with a big bear hug and words of praise. Our friends were very encouraging to him as well with their words and with Grandpa Bill giving him a high five!
We couldn't wait to get home to see if dad had returned from work yet. He had gotten home, which allowed Shane to spill his happy news right away. We made sure to have a conversation concerning how important it is to continue in the right paths and to maintain a strong, Christian testimony, not for earthly awards alone, but more importantly, awards in heaven! We also stressed how God blesses obedience and he was on the right path.
Agustin and I thought it very important to stress how much we pray for Shane and how we feel so very blessed that God saw fit to award us a special gift by bringing him into our lives. It was a great night of bonding.
If you think of Shane during the day, would you mind lifting his name up in prayer to the Father, asking that he would always have a heart for God? I appreciate that so very much.

First Things First---GOOD MORNING RON!!!

Show and Tell
For Show and Tell this week, I'd like to continue showing you my Bible collection. So far, I've shared with you a Spanish Bible from my Uncle Ray's personal library and my Bi-Lingual Bible which once belonged to my niece Jackie. Remember all the sweet drawings and notes in that one?

The Bible I'm sharing today is a New Testament which was once owned by my Dad's mom, Granny Susie. She has scribbled some notes in this little Bible which makes it all the more precious to me. This New Testament was distributed by "The Pocket Testament League". Presbyterian Committee of Publication. I love the color choice for the cover, PURPLE which reminds me of ROYALTY. I couldn't find the copyright date in the Bible, but in my Grandmothers handwriting, I found the year 1925 written. This Bible was presented to her in Stacy, VA by F. E. Alock.

The antique Bible rests atop my stack of antique poetry books.

Notice the date Granny wrote at the top of this page of the Bible. (Sunday 29, 1925) Each time I look at the date she wrote here, I can't help but chuckle. She didn't note which month she received the little Bible.

I'm sorry this photo didn't come out very clear. In the back cover is a personal message written and signed by then President Woodrow Wilson.

This date at the top marks the day she gave this little Bible to her youngest son, my daddy. It was Dec. 30, 1989.

I just love the small colored pictures included.

When my dad granted me guardianship of his mother's New Testament, he also gave me his old draft cards. I wish they were legible, but after carrying them in his wallet for so many years, they are terribly worn and faded. I can make out that for his complexion they wrote "ruddy".

The other side of daddy's draft card.

This card tells my dad's height and weight, etc.

The card in this photo is labeled "Selective Service System" Notice of Classification, and where he applied. (Mullens, W.Va.)

I keep these small papers safely tucked in Granny's New Testament.

I trust you enjoyed looking at this old Bible, full of family memories. See you next week! Oh and remember, to see more Show and Tells, LINK HERE TO KELLIS HOUSE!

THE "DOODLINGS" WHICH MAKE ME CRY!

Join me and many others for this time of fun and sharing. Simply CLICK HERE to visit and/or signup! I'm so thrilled that Kelli started this Friday Fun for us to participate in.

Show and Tell

Last week, I featured a special Bible which we recieved from my Uncle Ray's personal library. I thought I'd continue with the theme of Bibles until I've shown you all the very special ones in our collection.

Many of you know a little about my niece
JACKIE JO VERNOY MCCOBB LIVING IN PARAGUAY AS A MISSIONARY'S WIFE. When she and her hubby were packing up for the big move to South America a few years ago, she left a few boxes of things in a storage room at my dad's church. These boxes of items were to be donated to D & D Mission Homes. One afternoon, I entered that storage room to get some bulletin board paper for the board in my Sunday School classroom. AND THERE IT WAS...Jackie's Spanish/English Bible!! "What?" I asked myself in amazement! "She's going to just give this away?!?" Then I seized it! Yes folks, my greedy little hands had to have it."Hey this is still in good shape and Agustin has been wanting a 2 in 1 Bible! Thank you Lord and thank you Jackie!" I stood there in that hot little room, leafing through the precious Bible. I thought of that beautiful, godly niece of mine using that very Bible in mission's conference after mission's conference with her parents. AND SURE ENOUGH... there was proof she had used it much ! She had "doodled" in her Bible. A couple of the "doodles" brought tears instantly to my eyes as they showed a pure, devoted heart! Sometime later, when I finally remembered to tell her that I had RESCUED her old Bible and about some of the cute doodlings I had found in it, she smugly said, "Oh, I'm sure I drew those while sitting in yet another conference while dad showed our slides yet again!" We both giggled.

Well, I couldn't wait to get home that evening to show my hubby the treasure I had just found! He was actually very excited about it when he saw it. Then I showed him the doodlings and notes. How precious it was to think of those pre-teen hands using this Bible, taking many good notes which were interspersed with the "doodlings"! Now my hubby uses that Bible daily for his devotions and has added a few notes and doodles of his own!

Personal note to Jackie: Honey, You don't know the times that I've used that Bible just so I could feel connected to you somehow. I've even had tears come to my eyes occassionally when I show your notes and drawings to others. It is certainly a very special item which I plan on keeping until the day I die.

PHOTOS OF JACKIE'S OLD BIBLE

One of the heart wrenching "doodles". If you enlarge it, you may be able to see where she wrote: "I got saved!" and "My Grandma's in heaven."

More "doodling"! I love how the stick people appear to be happy neighbors.

Sermon notes!

More sermon notes in Spanish.

This Bible was given to Jackie by my parents for Christmas, 1993.

This shot shows how the English translation lines up right next to the Spanish one.

The words to one of my favorite choruses, "Hay Una Cenda"

This is my favorite "doodle" It says volumes about Jackie's heart! The person in the drawing is shedding tears. In the word bubble out from it, it says, "I LOVE JESUS!" Isn't that the most precious thing? *okay, I can't see the keyboard through my own tears now*.

JACKIE just posted an awesome post tonight. If you want your heart to be blessed today, be sure to pop on over and check her blog out today! FAITHFUL IN THE FEW THINGS

FRIDAY SHOW AND TELL (in memory of Uncle Ray Kennedy)

Show and Tell
Surprise! I haven't participated in a Friday Show and Tell since I don't know when! To enjoy more goodies, link on over to KELLI'S HOUSE where a long list of participants await you! I have a 'CERTAIN COUSIN' who keeps getting on to me about it, says he really misses seeing what I will come up with for my Friday Show and Tells. I think this 'CERTAIN COUSIN' will particularly like what I'm featuring today! Enjoy! You know who you are! LOL
My Show and Tell today is a very special book. Not only is it special because its the Bible, God's Holy Word, but it is in the Spanish Language and once belonged to my Uncle Ray Kennedy. Uncle Ray was a well educated man and a minister of the word. After Uncle Ray graduated to heaven, his wife gave many of his books, commentaries, and this Bible to my dad, her brother. I remember driving over to Aunt Donna's when she still lived in Vero Beach to spend time helping dad box up some of the treasures that had been my Uncle's. He was like a little boy in a candy shop! I'll never forget his demeanor or the twinkle in his eyes that day as he lovingly handled, sifted through pages, and packed up what to him was the best gift ever! It was peaceful standing in Uncle Ray's study, knowing that he was now with God and out of all pain. I remember the day well as it was the day that the van of Bible students from Crown College had been in a terrible crash and all died right there on Highway 60 just the night before. We passed YeeHaw Junction without knowing this, but on the way back home, we received a phone call telling us about the horrible incident. I had chills as I realized we had just driven right through the very spot where those Christian young people, on a singing tour, had been called home. Aunt Donna was a trooper and worked hard right beside dad and I. I think we drove back to Tampa with 5 or 6 Rubbermaid action packers full of wonderful, delicious volumes. This Bible doesn't have a copyright date printed in it. It only says it was printed in the United States of America by the American Bible Society. As I handle this precious and small Bible, I wonder if Uncle Ray ever had the opportunity to lead a Spanish speaking person to Christ while using it. I love the musty, yellowing pages as I flip through. I'm so glad dad recalled I have a weakness for old things, especially old books! I'm sure he also thought Agustin and I would get more use from it than he, since we actually speak, read, and understand Spanish! LOL
Thanks dad for giving me this treasure from Uncle Ray.
The spine of my small, Spanish Bible. See the white discoloring on it from age? It is a beautiful hunter green color which didn't show up well in the photos.

Opened up to John 3 :16 "For God so loved the world that HE gave HIS only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in HIM should not perish but have everlasting life."
Juan 3:16 Porque de tal manera, amp Dios al mundo, que a dado a su Hijo, unigenito, para que todo aquel que en el cree, no se pierda, mas tenga vida eterna."

Odds and Ends!

Kelli is hosting her weekly Show and Tell again this week. Click on over and join in on the fun!

For Show & Tell this week, I thought I would show you our friendly neighborhood peacock! Isn't he/she a beauty?

One day last year, I heard a strange sound coming from our back patio. It sounded as though someone was scratching at our sliding glass doors! I opened the blinds and much to my amazement, this beautiful peacock was there staring at me. I called Agustin and Shane to come take a look.

I said, "Let's feed it so it will come back another day!" "What can we feed it?"

Agustin suggested a corn tortilla since birds like grains. He ran and got one, then proceeded to tear it into small pieces. The peacock actually ate some of it! And I'm happy to say that Mr./Mrs. Peacock has visited us many times since then. Nobody seems to know who owns this beautiful bird, but it is always a pleasant surprise to find it tolling around in our neighborhood, especially our backyard!
Now I'm changing gears a bit!

Sunday after church, I'll be leaving town for a week's vacation in Pompano Beach. It is to be a GIRLIE vacation! No men allowed! My aunt has invited all of her sisters and nieces down to enjoy the amenities at her timeshare, and hopefully to enjoy each other. "Each other" will be my favorite part, but I may sneak in one of those Swedish Massages!

Anyway, I'm telling you all this to let you know that I probably won't be blogging during the next week unless I play a Susan, from over at Penless Writer, and sneak around at night to find a computer to post and blog on!! (Susan was up blogging in the middle of the night, in her hotel business center while on her vacation!) Love Ya' Susan!

Have a super weekend.
Lots of Love,
Pam

OKAY, not finished yet!

I thought I'd end this post with a joke. First, think about this. How will you be remembered by your hubby if you pass on first? *winks*

As with many funerals, it was a cloudy, rainy day. The deceased was a little old lady who had devoted her entire married life to fussing at her poor husband. When the graveside service had no more than terminated, there was a tremendous burst of thunder accompanied by a distant lightning bolt and more rumbling thunder. The little old man looked at the pastor and calmly said, 'Well, she's there.'

There's No Place Like Home I've been wanting to do a post about our Vacation Bible School for some time now. Since summer is almost over, I thought I would just use this opportunity during Show and Tell to share with you our wonderful week we had in God's house back in June!
Mr. and Mrs. Arnold travel all over the United States, directing VBS, revivals, etc. We were honored to have them back again this year at our church for this summer's Vacation Bible School! Isn't her smile just delightful? Please pray for Bro. Arnold as he is fighting some health issues.
I'd like to introduce to you "Felicia the Fox"!! Mrs. Arnold did her voice. The giggle was to die for and Felicia would try to sing REALLY high pitches. It was hilarious. The kids would just look at each other and giggle.

Some of our kiddos holding the visualized "Wordless Book"!

Brother Arnold beginning to perform his chalk art.

One night, he drew Joseph in his coat of many colors!

Shane won this piece of art by Brother Arnold by bringing the most visitors to VBS! It represents the Garden of Eden. When placed under a black light, you will see Jesus hanging on the cross for our sins.

Brother Jon Yates leading us in the opening exercises with the help of the kiddos of course! On the last night of VBS, Shane was pleased to be asked to come up and hold the Bible.

A couple of the men were called on to come hold up a song!

Oh my, you simply must meet "Milly" and "Lily" some day. They had a comical way of reviewing the lesson from the night before and setting up the new lesson.

Some of our moms helping out!

Mrs. Arnold teaching the memory verse. She is one awesome and talented lady. She sings, does puppets, acts the part of Milly, teaches the Bible verses, plays piano while her husband is doing his chalk art, etc. and all with a great, big, ol' beautiful Christ like smile. She never seemed tired or preoccupied.

The best thing about VBS this year is that we had several children accept Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. Right now the number of children escapes my mind, but God knows who they are!

That Time Again!

It's Friday's Show and Tell, thanks to Kelli. Hop on over to her place to sign up for the sharing!

This week, I wanted to share with you all a painting I have of "Mexican Women at the Market". I love the vibrant colors and the reality of it. I have seen similar scenes on countless occassions while living or visiting in Mexico. I think my favorite thing about this painting is that the lady in the forefront is carrying her baby on her back. She or someone has handed the baby a flower to entertain him. My mother in law owns several of these style aprons, many of which seem to be made in the same checkered fabric as painted here. This hangs above our table in the breakfast nook. I took the photo of it from a side angle so the light from the flash wouldn't be distracting!

HAVE A WONDERFULLY BLESSED WEEKEND!

Found in Hope Chest!

Yay! It's time for Friday's Show and Tell again! I wonder what kind of treasures await me today. If you would like to take part in Kelli's weekly Show and Tell, then click here and sign up on
MR. BLINKY!

Today, I wanted to show you this cute little tee shirt I came across recently while going through my hope chest. My friend, Connie Padgett, used her computer to make this "iron on" statement. She presented it along with several other pieces of clothing for Baby Shane back in 1997! Here is Shane today holding his tiny little shirt. He thought it was adorable when I showed it to him the other day. You should have heard him cooing and awing over it. It made tears well up in my eyes!

I can't believe he once fit in this!!!
