Meet "Delilah"

...the newest member of our family! Just look at that face!

I contemplated naming her "Angel" because she came to us like an Angel and has such a pleasant disposition. Shane has been bugging me for months to get a dog. We haven't had a pet since moving into this house FIVE years ago! We've been reading and researching about Corgis and Dachshunds, his first choice of a dog being a Corgi. Well, out of the blue, last Saturday while visiting my parents, we noticed a puppy roaming the streets. By afternoon, she had nearly been hit by several vehicles. My husband brought her into my mom's fenced yard and gave her water. As soon as I walked out onto the deck and got a good gander at her beautiful face and EYES, I was hooked! The following sentence came flying out of my mouth before I knew it: "If we can't find her proper owners, she is going home with us!"

We took her around to several neighbors. Not a one had ever seen her. She had a collar on but no tags when we rescued her from the street. We all noticed she was very clean. We sat on the deck, grilled out, let her play and nap all evening there in the yard. Not a single car slowed to seemingly look for a missing puppy.

Sooo... at the end of the night, when we loaded the truck to head home, guess who was in the haul? Yep, Miss Delilah!

We had spent the evening trying to think of the perfect name for her, you know, in case we did bring her home. We discussed Buffy (for her color), and a few other names. When Josh arrived (our 23 year old), he looked at her as she greeted him on the sidewalk. He gave her one or two pats, commented on her gorgeous eyes and her sweet face then blurted out: "You should call her "Delilah". The second I heard it, I knew that was it. She would now be "Delilah". Later in the day, he suggested "Cleopatra" because she appears to have black eyeliner around the green eyes, but no, "Delilah" had stuck! Later, I mentioned possibly calling her "Angel" but that didn't seem to stick either.

We've had a fun week with her, learning more about her little personality and she learning ours! She seems to have had some training. She sits automatically when you approach her with the leash or if you give her a treat. She lets us know when she needs to potty by pacing back and forth from the front door to the back sliders. She is very loving and affectionate as you'll see in the following photos. Shane has really shouldered his load of responsibilities with her. He bathed her last Monday and again today. She smells so good tonight! Thanks Shane!

She isn't a Corgi, but Shane is delighted with her-and she was FREE!! We will get her into the vet now and hopefully get a better estimate on her age. I'm guessing she is around four months. She is at that gangly stage, and still has those tiny, sharp puppy teeth. I'll always wonder what her history is. Is there a family missing her? Was she sat out in the neighborhood on purpose? What was her name before we dubbed her "Delilah"?

Shane says he still has a hankering for a Corgi, but he loves Delilah!

That dog is a CrAzY sleeper! Just look at some of her positions!
Of course, by the end of her first night with us, I had allowed her to break my one staunch rule-allowing her on the couch!

But she wanted to be right up against me each time I sat down and being the softy that I am, well...I now have to keep a sheet on my couch!

There is definitely nothing quite like a boy and his dog!

Surgery For Mom Today

Prayers appreciated! Mom goes in for surgery to have a suspicious lymph node removed today. She checks in at noon, but surgery isn't scheduled until 3 p.m. I'll keep you posted when we get the results in.

My husband's mom and brother are in from Mexico. Let me just say---we've been busy!! They are road warriors! No sitting at home relaxing for them! Each day finds us on an adventure or an outing! Today it was the beach!

I have lots of photos coming soon. In the meantime, here are a few more photos from our family reunion in July.

Concern From My Anonymous Friend

On my post from July 21 (Can One Have Too Much Fun) anonymous felt he/she/it should leave us a comment - because he/she/it loves us and is so concerned for our health. It seems the photo of the country breakfast offended him/her/it. (FYI-my family rarely cooks those foods these days. That breakfast was made as an indulgence for guests from the city. The lady who cooked that breakfast didn't even partake, as she is on Weight Watcher's.)
I'll post the comment here so we can all be enlightened, but I think most of you already know the tidbit anonymous shared. I guess if it makes anonymous happy to troll around and rain on our parades, then far be it from me to take his/her/it's joy away!

"wow, no wonder almost everyone in that family is fat. WV is second only to MS in obesity."

How many of you think that this anonymous friend needs to learn some manners? I'm sure he/she/it feels he/she/it is far superior than I. I however, do not troll around to strangers blogs just to post obnoxious comments!
My first inclination was to not publish the comment since it isn't the first time that this troll has left a comment about my obesity or that of my family members. Then I realized that this poor little troll needs a life and really has nothing else to do other than insult others.
Now just for fun! Some more photos of fat people; loving, kind, gentle FAT people! Who would you rather spend time with? Sweet, caring, kind FAT folks OR rude, hateful, lonely SKINNY people?

Tiff, Josh with Kelsey on her trampoline. You can hear my cousin Sherry's sweet voice on the video. I love that girl! Every pound of her!

I posted this photo so you might see the beautiful scenery.
Oh the trees in the background are kind of pretty too!

BIOPSY UPDATE & FAMILY REUNION part 2

Yesterday, the biopsy was performed on mom's thyroid. It was very painful for her. They realized after getting started that she should have been "put out". The local anesthetic would not numb the bone and it seemed they kept hitting her bone during the procedure. I'll keep you updated with the results. Thanks for those prayers.
Keep 'em coming.

Here are some more photos from our family reunion.

All the GREAT-GRANDKIDS that were there. Shane, my little brown bear in a sea of blonde!

All the GRANDKIDS who were there.
Or should I say all the COUSINS?
AND NOBODY BETTER LEAVE A COMMENT ABOUT THE POOR DEMISE OF THAT LITTLE OL' BENCH!! LOL
Another one of us. We felt like the papparazi were hounding us! So many cameras!

don't you think?
Driving on Hwy. 52 through a little town called Keystone. You can click to enlarge enabling you to get a better look at the coal cleaning site ahead.

Uncle Clarence drove me down into the site. After working in the mines and owning a fleet of coal trucks, he knows these mines like the back of his hand.
How do you think the "Cap & Trade(tax)" will affect the folks living in the coal fields region of West Virginia? They've already been hurt by the environmentalist movement over the years. Interesting that a democratic congressman wouldn't even agree to come and look at how the mountain top mining works before voting against a bill which would help the mining industry. The entire mountain top is rebuilt after extracting the coal, creating actual real estate space for farms, etc.
Approaching the coal which had already been cleaned, awaiting to be loaded into train cars.

Now, Iaeger Pharmacy, but back in 1960, this was Clark's Clinic. Guess who was born here?

Can One Have TOO MUCH FUN????

Is it possible to have too much of a good thing? My fun-o-meter is tilted to FULL!! What with our road trip to West Virginia for a family reunion weekend before last and then another reunion here in Florida this past Saturday, I can honestly say I've had enough fun to last me all year! I've been dying to get a post on here about all the happenings and funnies but have been too busy or utterly exhausted! A good exhaustion mind you! Laughter so hard, my sides and jaws hurt! Tears of emotion, my eyes are red and puffy! Long car rides, my joints are screaming! House full of company, up too late talking!

This is all good and not to be taken as a negative.

I'm so proud and so honored to have been able to visit and love on my family and friends over these past two weeks!

So where do I begin? I suppose it best to begin with our family reunion. I know my poor sissy is dying for some photos so here goes! Our first day in West Virginia was spent at my cousin Donna's home. What a sweetie she is! When we're together, I think all we do is giggle! Her poor hubby was a trooper and put up with us in good humor! Thank you Lennis!

Donna cooked us a good, hot, country breakfast our first morning with her. Look at that homemade gravy, biscuit, sausage AND bacon, fried farm egg! YUMMY and oh so fattening!

My cousin Donna and I with our Aunt Carol Jane.

The woodsy view right off her back patio! This is on the side of a mountain by the way!

The view off of Donna's back patio. I so enjoyed taking my morning coffee there. I listened to the birdies chirp, and enjoyed the cooler morning weather. There was almost a "nippiness" in the air! What a nice break from the humid, wet heat here in Florida during the summer.

The scenery looking off of Donna's front deck! A country highway, mountains full of trees, all kinds of neat sounds, but peaceful, very peaceful!

Later that evening, our Aunt Rachel brought her two grandbabies by to swim in Donna's pool. She didn't know that mom, Shane, my brother John and I were there. We hid behind the kitchen door, giving her plenty of time to step inside. Then we jumped out and hollered, "HI!" I'm not sure what she uttered but her face was a prize to see!

Shane living the life at Donna's!

***************************

In the first video below, you'll see the little fox that would come down out of the woods about three times a day to eat whatever scraps Lennis would throw out for it.

I love living in the country!

The second video is a sample of Lennis playing and singing. He had just tuned his guitar before heading off to church. I asked that he sing something for me. The clip is very short, as my memory card was full! After this, Lennis and I sang something together. For the life of me, I can't remember what we sang! I do know it was alot of fun being with these two sweet Christian people.
