HOW TO READ BIBLE STORIES TO CHILDREN

  • Pray together before you begin to read.
  • Read each story with enthusiasm.
  • Pause throughout the story to answer you children's questions and to ask questions to aid their understanding.
  • Teach them to pronounce the names for people and places.
  • Make application to your family and your children's lives as much as possible.
  • Encourage your children to repeat the summary statements at the end of each story.
  • Take time to define any new Bible words in the story that they may not know.
  • Pray together as you conclude the story time.

These are wonderful tips, Pam. I always wonder how much they are understanding while I'm reading, and I'm always amazed when I ask questions. It's often a blessing to ME when I read to the children!

A wonderful sentiment that I hope so many will take up!!

Such delightful music - you have in the background too.

"Teach them to pronounce..." When Second was little he could not say "Joseph" no matter how hard we worked on it; it was always "Joe-phus" LOL! :-)

It was great to meet Tracy and if you are ever 30 miles out to see, I hope you'll stop by too!

This is really good. It is very important to pray before and after...but to also add that enthusiasm. Kids need their interest to be kept and enthusiasm is the way to do it.

Oh my goodness to what Vanessa said about her child because my daughter pronounced Joseph the exact same way. She would play (bang) the piano and sing about Mary and Joephus all the time. Sooo cute!!

thanks for the help in this area. I've been trying to teach my children. Instructing them as to Jesus's ways of peace and love.

Pam, you mentioned on my Show and Tell Friday blog that I used several words that you did not know. I really try not to do that, but forget often. I figure one is stanchion. It is a milking stand area. It usually has something to hold the animals head so they can't walk away and has an area for them to eat while you milk them. I thought maybe heifer was one. A heifer is a girl calf that has never had a baby. If there are others, please ask me.

...AND make sure you skip the tail end of Judges, or edit severely, if your children are under, oh, 30!
